Smart Irrigation Notifications Enable Landscape Design & Contractor to Fix Issues Before Damage is Done

CHALLENGE: CHURCH EXPANSION AND REPAVING PROJECT REQUIRED SUBSTANTIAL IRRIGATION UPGRADES

For more than 17 years, Houston-based Oden Design & Contracting has been providing high-quality landscape design and installation services for clients, including planting, drainage, lighting, hardscape enhancements, and irrigation systems.

Owned and managed by Brian O. Weatherall, a graduate of the Landscape Architecture program at Texas A&M University, the firm was tapped to lead a church irrigation and landscape expansion. The church’s old-fashioned timer irrigation system was not ideal for the increasing number of zones and the complexity of necessary phasing of the campus remodel.

That prompted Weatherall to look at other irrigation solutions. He decided to install the HydroPoint WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 across 50 zones on the church campus.

SOLUTION: WEATHERTRAK PROVIDES ALERTS THAT NOTIFY MAINTENANCE STAFF OF ISSUES IN REAL-TIME

The church and Weatherall chose the WeatherTRAK solution because of its advanced, cloud-based technology. Real-time notifications alert the team to a wide variety of irrigation issues, leaks, abnormal water consumption, and more so that problems can be addressed before irreparable damage is done.

“I would recommend HydroPoint WeatherTRAK smart irrigation without hesitation to any landscape contractor”

Weatherall was also impressed with the ease of programming the system. From the office or home, the entire WeatherTRAK system offers the church’s non-technical maintenance employees the ability to easily and precisely set irrigation parameters appropriate to each area’s requirements.

Flexibility to accommodate future system expansion was also a plus. “With the changeover to a 2-wire system utilizing WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 controller and decoders, irrigation system expansions required minor piping and wiring. Extensive and often disruptive trenching was no longer required,” explains Weatherall.

Oden Design led a church landscape and irrigation expansion project. They soon noticed that the existing irrigation system was not ideal for the increasing number of zones and the complexity of the project staging. After evaluating irrigation solutions, designer Brian Weatherall decided to install HydroPoint WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 across 50 zones on the church campus. Real-time notifications alerts the team to irrigation issues, leaks, abnormal water consumption, and more so that problems can be addressed before irreparable damage is done.

RESULTS: AN ADDITIONAL WEATHERTRAK SYSTEM IS SLATED FOR THE FUTURE

Oden Design and the church are already looking to the future and planning to replace another outdated irrigation system with HydroPoint WeatherTRAK ET Pro3. The system saves the church money by delivering the correct amount of water to plants based on weather intelligence gathered by the cloud-based technology and with its ability to pinpoint issues quickly, before damage occurs.

“I would recommend HydroPoint WeatherTRAK smart irrigation without hesitation to any landscape contractor looking to add value to their clients’ landscape by delivering just the right amount of water when needed as well as preventing loss to the landscape through real-time alerts. Maintaining the landscape in an optimal and efficient manner alone is of real value,” concludes Weatherall.
