Levi’s Stadium Case Study
Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California is home to the San Francisco 49ers NFL team. It is designed as an open stadium with a natural grass field. It has a seating capacity of 68,500, expandable to approximately 75,000 to host major events like the Super Bowl and the FIFA World Cup. The stadium is currently one of the largest buildings registered with the U.S. Green Building Council. It is also the first U.S. stadium that has both a green roof and solar panels.

A BaseStation 1000 irrigation controller is installed on the roof and irrigates the dense plantings in the VIP Club area. A PFS flow sensor monitors flow for high flow events which obviously would be catastrophic for the structure below. Moisture sensors also monitor the soil profile to ensure plant health. A second BaseStation 1000 is installed at ground level to irrigate the numerous planters around the stadium concourse and entryway.
